Sketching training/challenge

Updated: May 16, 2020

During this practice, we were given an image of a product and 1 min to design each part of the product. We used two diff method of sketching in round one and two. Round one was about getting the ideas down fast and efficiently. While round two was also about getting the ideas down fast and efficiently, it was also about combining our favourite parts to make one design.

Round one:

Started with a simple picture of a bottle to get inspiration, we began this process by sketching different angles with the given time frame I only managed to sketch two angles. After that we sketched different sizes the bottle could be, I decided to go for the normal standard “small, standard, medium and large” Thirdly we tried to add handles of some sort. Then we experimented with shapes, lips/lids and even creating an app!

Wow, who knew you could go from sketching a bottle to an app!

Round Two:

Personally, this round was a lot harder for someone reason but still had heaps of fun playing around with shapes and the challenge of pressure.

We started with a standard desk lamp, sketched the lamp as is for a starting point. From there we sketched the individual parts of a lamp the lampshade, the stem until finally the base. Once we sketched all the parts we had to pick our favourite from each “category” and combine them into one.

I loved how the final lamp turned out! It was nothing like what I would think of without this method of sketching, from the first lamp sketched to the last is completely different.

Training Challenge:

This challenge was by far the most final because we could use what we learnt about sketching and apply it to our own style of sketching. We had to sketch different chairs based off the chair we were given. (The chair sketched top right) here are the results.
