Movie poster reflections

Updated: Apr 9, 2020

As poster one of my favourite poster out of the three for design101. Inspired by Neville Brody’s movie poster oceans 12 (1) but with a bit of my own touch to create a different design. Since Brody’s movie poster had silhouettes of people it inspired me to create a similar effect in my poster by adding a silhouette layer over the sunset. One part about the poster that could be improved is the way I have done the outline of the person, maybe adding a bit of dimension similar to what Brody had done so, this would mean it’s more appealing to the eyes. The blended colours as the background complement each other because of the colour pallet used. Complementary colours are colours opposite sides of the colour wheel like red and green are complement each other, this poster for instance yellow and purple complement each other. There is science behind why complementary colours are pleasing to the eye, there's photo rector cells which contribute to humans colour vision, perceive those different types of light of the colour spectrum

This theory was put to the test, try staring at blank blue colour for a few minutes. Then, quickly look at a white wall. You’ll see a faint orange afterimage which is blue’s opposite color.(2)

Only in the nineteenth century artist became aware of the significance of complementary colours. This lead to the development of impressionism and post-impressionism as well as fauvism. Impressionists were the first to state that complementary colours are neutral rather than shadows. That means yellow (sunlight) throws a violet shadow, therefore the colours I used (yellow and purple) were used in the correct way. That being yellow the sunshining and the purple shadow (3)

By using Photoshop tools not really used before I can see how far I have come not being open to trying new things.
